FUJI Bike For more than 100 years, the company now known as Fuji has sold high-quality bicycles. Between the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, Fuji expanded from serving the Japanese domestic market to becoming a world leader. Fuji's Japanese engineers are responsible for innovative bikes, which have won international races and influenced and inspired the design features of bicycles made by other companies.
By the late 1950s, Fuji had expanded across Asia and was looking toward American shores. In these early years in America, Fuji bikes were privately branded to be sold by Montgomery Ward and Sears & Roebuck as their house brands. In 1971, Fuji America was established, with headquarters in New York City. Fuji bikes were unveiled in America for the first time during that year's New York Bicycle Dealer Show, where they were displayed in the Hilton Hotel's lobby. Fuji America solidified its reputation over the next few decades. In 2001, Fuji decided to move away from the big box stores and distribute bicycles through independent bike dealers.
